How I Waste Most of my Time Every Day

How do you waste the most time every day?

It’s not like I really loved reading Till Day Break (TDB) when I was in school, but oftentimes I had no choice but to. You can imagine how joyful I was when I finally signed out.

Yes! No more TDB!

Importantly, there are no more impromptu tests ‘ika’ (wicked tests) to prepare for. Most importantly, I don’t have any more business with Shakespeare, Halliday, Chomsky, Samuel Beckett, or C. S. Peirce. Permit me to add Wole Soyinka. If you’re wondering why, I studied English and Literature. By the way, I can’t add Roach to the list because, why?

I almost forgot to add that I wouldn’t have any business differentiating between big Literature and small literature, even though when I recall the difference between them, I laugh.

Well, little did I know that the culture of staying awake most of the night to study would affect my sleeping habit after graduation. So often, especially on Sundays, I end up sleeping past 3 a.m. or 4 a.m.

What do I end up doing before finally sleeping?

I intentionally shut down anything on social media, especially Instagram and Co. I tell myself it’s time to build value, which will be needed soon. I must confess that sometimes, I gave in to the temptation of watching movies. But that means I must redeem the time lost during the day.

So, I take my online courses, one of which is the AI Career Essentials Program. It’s a programme that teaches one how to leverage AI for career development, integrate AI assistants into one’s daily workflow, and so on.

Most importantly, I must pray. Even if I don’t attend my online classes or listen to a godly message, I must pray. Well, I dare not see a movie without praying first. I have loved praying in and decreeing into the early hours of the day, even before I gained admission to the university. Now that I have graduated and rarely sleep early, I have all the time to pray, as well as meditate. It’s like a scenario where an angel appeared to Elijah and told him to eat because the journey was far.

Similarly, I know it’s time to gain strength, build stamina, decree words into the future, and amass spiritual wealth. Truly, the journey of this new phase is far, and like a man of God once said, ‘Don’t be too happy about a future you didn’t send words into.’ As much as I’m joyful about my future, I don’t stop sending words to it by praying.

During the day, I waste my time reading books, most often novels. Aside from the relaxation novels offer, personally, I read some selected authors’ works, e.g., Tessa Afshar, to study their writing style. Ultimately, it helps me with being creative when writing. I also improve my knitting and musical skills.

By now, you should know it’s not wasting but investing my time.

So what habit or skill have you built out of necessity in the past that presently seems not to be ‘useful’? Think well. How can this habit or skill help you invest invaluably in other areas of your life?
