This ASUU strike has greatly helped my career. Come to think of it, at least, I make money. Fortunately, one of my new year resolutions is not to depend on my parents for my upkeep. In fact, I wrote that I’d be the one sending money home. Sadly, the strike has been called off, I’ve been unable to meet up with the other part of the resolution (send money home). And like many other students, I am not happy about resumption. But guess what? I can’t tell my parents I’m no longer interested in schooling.
As such, if you’re in this boat with me, I have come up with 3 solid convincing reasons you can tender to your parents not to resume school. Trust me, they will buy into it. My mum is already considering it, it remains my dad.
- This country has failed to realize that you’re their future. It has failed to realize that your going back to school after a strike of 8 months has wreaked your academic life. But on a second thought, if the government didn’t foresee this havoc, if they have failed to treat you as a future leader, should you also accept to be a deficit to the country? Going back to school is instrumental in enabling your career progression, bringing out your value and empowering you to truly shine in your current, aspired and future roles.
- School is a scam! If you’re studying abroad, school won’t look like a scam, right? But in this country it is a scam, right? The curriculum doesn’t reflect the latest trend of your course of study, isn’t it? You too, think out of the box: apply the knowledge you’ll/you’ve gain(ed) to solve problems around you. Go back to school, make the best use of this “scam education”. Or do you want your children to also go through the same “scam school?”
- Lastly, the fact that there is no assurance of getting a good paying job opportunity after graduating, is enough not to go back to school. Come to think of it, even a graduate with an awesome result is yet to get a good job. How much more you, an undergraduate, about to graduate? At this point, permit me to share the quote my boss shared with me yesterday. He said, “Responsibilities aren’t assigned to individuals based on age rather based on perspective.” In other words, what’s your perspective towards your post-school life? Join the myriad of “the unemployed”? Rather, start adding to your perspective now, honed skills, outstanding talent and GOOD CHARACTER. Lest I forget, the God-factor is very important.
I hope by now you’ve seen reasons you shouldn’t go back to school. By the way there is time for everything. This is the time to make wise choices that will make your future.

Loool. I don’t feel like going back to school though, but I love the reasons stated above, yet, you still encourage us to see the good in completing a degree education coupled with gaining mastery in other areas. Good job 🥰, lovely content.
